About
Internationally recognized surgeon-scientist Thomas H. Inge, MD, PhD, joined Lurie Children’s as Surgeon-in-Chief in November 2021. Renowned for his expertise in pediatric bariatric surgery and research, Dr. Inge previously served at Children’s Hospital of Colorado, where he was the Associate Surgeon-in-Chief and a member of the hospital’s Executive Leadership Team. He was also the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery, Director of the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery program, and a Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.
Dr. Inge has special training and expertise in weight loss surgery in children and teens, hernia repair, gastrointestinal surgery and minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
Dr. Inge has held leadership roles in numerous national organizations and has been a frequently invited faculty and speaker internationally. His surgical outcomes research has been continuously funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases since 2005, and during this time he has collaborated broadly to address key questions pertaining to pediatric obesity and surgical treatment. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and published nearly 60 reviews, editorials, books, and book chapters. He has served as a mentor for dozens of doctoral and medical students.

Dr. Inge is a primary investigator for the Teen Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (Teen-LABS) consortium, a group of six clinical centers from across the country and a data coordinating center that facilitates research in the field of adolescent bariatric surgery.
