About
Mike Certo is originally from Pittsburgh, PA. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance from Carnegie Mellon University and the Manhattan School of Music, an MD from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a master’s degree in bioethics from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the faculty at Lurie Children’s in 2023, where he practices pediatric palliative care, critical care, and clinical ethics. He also serves as the program director for the pediatric track of the hospice and palliative medicine fellowship at Northwestern and Lurie Children's. His academic interests include music as narrative medicine, ethical decision-making frameworks, pediatric suffering, serious illness communication, and education at the intersection of pediatric palliative care, critical care, and bioethics.
