About Me

Dr. Romero is a pediatric nephrologist with a special interest in the intersection of mental health and kidney disease, as well as in kidney care for adolescents and young adults, and kidney transplantation. He completed his Residency Program in Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he was granted the Red Shoes award, presented to the senior resident who has shown superior compassion to parents and patients. He then completed his fellowship training in pediatric nephrology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, while also earning a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research from Northwestern University. During this time, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his compassionate care. He has written articles, book chapters, and collaborated with the National Kidney Foundation to recognize mental health as part of comprehensive kidney care. For his advocacy work, he won the Anne E Dyson Resident Advocacy Award during his training and was selected as a John E. Lewy Foundation Advocacy Scholar in 2022. His current work is funded through the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute.
