New Clinic Name Announcement: SPROUT Program
Lurie Children’s has decided that the Gender & Sex Development Program will become two separate programs. Since founding in 2013, the Gender Development Program and Sex Development Program existed under one umbrella. While there is overlap between the two communities, patients who are gender diverse and patients with intersex traits or variations in sex development are very different and have unique healthcare needs. This structural change recognizes the differences between these two communities, but we remain steadfast in our partnership and our commitment to continuing to learn and grow alongside our patients.
The Gender Development Program will retain its name and continue to provide medical and behavioral health care for our transgender and nonbinary patients. This change does not impact the referral process, providers, location, or appointment scheduling. To contact the Gender Development Program, please call KIDSDOC at 1.800.543.7362.
The Sex Development (DSD) Program will change its name to SPROUT, which reflects the core mission of being a Supportive Program for a Range Of Urogenital Traits. Our program emphasizes a strong investment in listening and being responsive to the needs of our patients & families as well as the intersex community. Through our conversations it became clear that a new name would be preferred. It is our goal to ensure that all patients and families feel comfortable attending our clinic to access the healthcare and support services we provide, thus we are excited to transition to SPROUT. Our name change will not impact the referral process, providers, location, or appointment scheduling. To contact SPROUT, please call Danielle Lee at 312.227.6203.
