How You Can Support Lurie Children’s During Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and supporting those affected by heart conditions. Each year, Lurie Children’s cardiologists care for more than 17,000 cardiac patients through outpatient diagnostic visits, admit approximately 700 inpatients to the Heart Center and perform around 450 heart surgeries annually, with one of the best survival rates for congenital heart surgery. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of these patients.

Here are several impactful ways you can support Lurie Children's during Heart Month:

  1. Start a Fundraiser: Mobilize your community by starting a fundraiser to support pediatric heart care. Lurie Children's offers a Community Fundraising program that empowers individuals to create their own events or campaigns. When you register online, you'll receive access to a personal fundraising page and resources to guide you. Your efforts can provide essential support to young patients during Heart Month. You can also join our Heart Month Team and fundraise alongside other heart advocates.
  2. Make a Gift in Recognition of a Caregiver or Honor a Loved One: A donation in honor or memory of a loved one or in gratitude for a caregiver will support vital care and research at Lurie Children’s. If a caregiver in Lurie Children’s Heart Center has impacted your family, making a gift in their honor during American Heart Month is an incredibly generous way to show your gratitude. Do you have a loved one who has been affected by heart disease? Donating in their honor is a powerful way to support other patients and families and help give kids the promise of a healthier future.
  3. Make a One-Time or Monthly Donation: Direct contributions have an immediate impact. Your donation can support critical care, groundbreaking research, and essential programs for children with heart conditions. Consider making a one-time gift or setting up a recurring donation to provide ongoing support. Every dollar brings hope and healing to the children and families at Lurie Children's. You can make a gift online or contact a Lurie Children’s Foundation team member at donationinquiries@luriechildrens.org or 312.227.7500 to discuss other ways to give.
  4. Volunteer Your Time: Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the patient and family experience at Lurie Children's. By offering your time, you can provide comfort, support, and joy to young patients. Opportunities range from regular in-hospital shifts, to joining a board or making craft packets for families. Explore all of the ways to volunteer and make an impact during Heart Month and beyond.
  5. Advocate for Pediatric Heart Health: Heart Month is a critical time to raise awareness about congenital heart disease and the importance of pediatric cardiac care. Share information on social media, participate in awareness campaigns or host informational sessions in your community. By educating others, you can help promote early detection and support for children with heart conditions. You can follow us on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn for great content to re-share during Heart Month.

Your involvement during Heart Month can lead to better outcomes and brighter futures for children facing heart challenges. Whether through fundraising, donating, volunteering, or advocacy, every action contributes to the mission of Lurie Children's and helps us care for more kids. Together, we can make a heartfelt difference.
