Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC)

The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) is a nationally recognized leader for community-based childhood obesity prevention. Founded in 2002, CLOCC supports thousands of partners to promote healthy and active lifestyles for children and families. Our efforts are changing environments, reducing obesity and making a lasting impact on the health of the city. CLOCC’s multi-sector approach emerged in Chicago and is being replicated and adapted for use across the country.

Focus Areas

The consortium is comprised of seven interest groups, each focused on a particular population, context or topic that is relevant to childhood obesity prevention. Consortium partners participate in interest groups for shared learning, to build professional networks and to shape the actions of the consortium. These include:

  • Early Childhood
  • Food Access
  • Health Promotion and Public Education
  • Physical Activity and the Built Environment
  • Policy and Advocacy
  • Research and Evaluation
  • School Systems

Key Strategies

CLOCC offers regular network meetings, trainings, workshops, and other events to advance partner knowledge and skills so that the best available approaches to childhood obesity prevention are implemented effectively in Chicago and beyond.
