Children’s Memorial Hospital is listed as one of the Best Children’s Hospitals in the Chicago metro area by U.S.News & World Report. The magazine launched its new rankings of hospitals by metro area on its website on March 29.
While adult hospitals received new rankings, children’s hospitals were not ranked as part of this listing because few metro areas have more than one or two children’s hospitals. Instead, U.S.News only included the children’s hospitals that ranked in its Best Children’s Hospitals 2010 survey published last year online. In that survey, Children’s Memorial ranked in 9 specialties and five of them were in the top ten including Urology (5th nationally), Cancer, Gastroenterology, Kidney Diseases, and Neurology/Neurosurgery.
This new listing is much more consumer-friendly and showcases the ranked specialties in terms of quality, volumes, nurse-patient ratios, technology, breadth of programs and services, availability of pediatric specialists, fellowship training and clinical research.
U.S.News is planning to release the 2011 pediatric hospital rankings in late May or early June. Metro rankings will be updated at that time.
Children's Memorial is the pediatric teaching hospital of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In June of 2012, Children's Memorial will be moving to its new hospital in downtown Chicago, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
