Lurie Children's ranks 8th in the U.S.News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll for 2013-2014, up from 9th last year. The national Honor Roll recognizes children’s hospitals with high scores in at least three specialties. This year, Lurie Children’s has five specialties in the top 10, including Neurology/Neurosurgery (#5), Urology (#6), Gastroenterology (#7), Cancer (#8), and Nephrology (#9).
“The new facility is specifically designed to improve outcomes, accommodate new technology and expanded clinical research capabilities,” says Patrick M. Magoon, President and CEO of Lurie Children’s. “Clearly, Lurie Children’s is helping to further our mission to provide superior care to the region’s most critically ill and injured children.”
Since 2007, U.S.News rankings of children’s hospitals have put an increasing emphasis on survival rates, patient volumes, nurse staffing and available technology. For this year’s rankings, U.S.News surveyed 179 pediatric hospitals to rank 50 in each of the 10 specialties. Eighty-seven hospitals nationwide were ranked in at least one specialty.
These rankings are based mainly on performance data, such as patient outcomes, that demonstrate our commitment to safety, excellence, and respect for the patients and families in the care of Lurie Children’s. Reputation among pediatric specialists across the country accounted for 25% of the total scores.
The full rankings are available at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals. The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings will also appear in U.S.News’s Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, which will be sold in stores beginning on August 27.
