Lurie Children’s has been recognized as one of the nation’s "Most Wired" according to results from the latest Most Wired Survey in the Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of American Hospital Association (AHA). "Most Wired" is based on an organizations’ level of achievement in “adoption of technology to improve patient documentation, advance clinical decision support and evidence-based care, reduce medication errors, safeguard data and more."
“Once again, Lurie Children’s is recognized for the advanced technology and opportunities provided for our patients and clinicians,” said Stan Krok, chief information officer. “Lurie Children’s has been in the forefront of implementing an IT infrastructure that supports electronic medical records for over a decade, and our new hospital is equipped to not only continue this trend but to help it prosper. Our staff has specialized training needed to utilize this technology in clinical work and to continue making strides in the field of medical technology.”
This year’s survey reveals continued progress for hospitals in patient safety initiatives. For example, more than two thirds of "Most Wired" hospitals and 60 percent of all surveyed hospitals, including Lurie Children’s, report that medication orders are entered electronically by physicians. Further, nearly 71% of "Most Wired" hospitals have an electronic disease registry to identify and manage gaps in care across a population, compared with 51% of total responders.
An estimated 33% of U.S. hospitals are represented in the survey. The responses represent projects implemented as of March 15, 2013. For further results, contact email@example.com.
