Lurie Children's Announces New Division Head of Critical Care

Zena Leah Harris, MD, joined Ann & Rob​ert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago on August 1 as the new Division Head of Critical Care Medicine. Harris comes from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee. (Lurie Children’s is formally Children’s Memorial Hospital.)

During her years at Vanderbilt, Harris was Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics, Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care and the Division of Hospital Medicine, as well as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology. She served as the Interim Division Director, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, June 2010 – August 2011.
Earlier in her career, Harris was at Johns Hopkins University and Hospital, where she was Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and Director of the Molecular Biology Core Lab, in addition to serving as Associate Professor in the Department of International Health, Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed her pediatric critical care fellowship at Wyler Children’s Hospital, University of Chicago. In 2010, Harris started her six year appointment on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Standing Panel for Accreditation Appeals for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Lurie Children’s PICU is one of the 10 largest programs in the country, being the Midwest’s largest subspecialty training programs in pediatric critical care home to 40 PICU beds.
