Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship

The child abuse pediatrics (CAP) fellowship at Lurie Children’s, through Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, provides focused training in all areas of child abuse and neglect. Upon completion of this three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship, the physician will be knowledgeable and competent in all areas of child abuse and neglect, and will be well prepared to pass the child abuse pediatrics board examination.

Lurie Children’s is the only freestanding hospital exclusively for kids in the state of Illinois, serving more than 153,000 children in the 2013 fiscal year. The large volume of patients treated here provides an optimal learning experience. Fellows also spend several months gaining experience in sexual abuse evaluations at the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center.

In addition to patient care, fellows learn how to provide effective court testimony, assist in education of medical personnel and learn how to advocate for policy that will improve care and treatment of maltreated children. Independent research is expected and mentored. The fellowship is directed at training physicians who will pursue careers in academic settings.

This fellowship is open to candidates who have successfully completed a residency in pediatrics. Interested applicants should contact Amanda Fingarson, DO, at Afingarson@luriechildrens.org or 312.227.6847.
