Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is leading the way in healthcare transformation by focusing on one goal: to provide all children access to the best care in the most convenient and cost-effective setting. We are accomplishing this through the development of new partnerships, recruitment of the best and brightest pediatric specialists and researchers, and the creation of new models of care for improved coordination and quality.
We continue to advance in national rankings in U.S. News & World Report. This year, we are #8 overall and have five specialties in the top 10. We are extending our expertise to serve more children locally, nationally and globally.
Lurie Children’s was ranked 8th in U.S.News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll for 2014-2015 and was the only hospital in Illinois to be ranked in all 10 pediatric specialties. The national Honor Roll recognizes pediatric hospitals with high scores in at least three specialties. The hospital also had five specialties in the top 10, including Gastroenterology (2nd), Neurology/Neurosurgery (4th), Urology (5th), Cancer (6th), and Kidney Disease (9th).
Locally and regionally:
Already #1 in caring for more children than any other hospital in Illinois, Lurie Children's now provides care at 14 partner hospitals and 11 outpatient sites throughout the Chicago metro area. In the last year we began providing pediatric services at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, and our outpatient center in Grayslake expanded.
Nationally and internationally:
Lurie Children’s expertise is recognized far beyond the Chicago area. We cared for children from 50 states and 48 countries, and our new International Patient Services Department assists families from outside the U.S. with referrals to financial assistance, treatment and discharge, and interpreting services in more than 180 languages. See the reach of our care in this video.
Lurie Children’s Board of Directors approved the creation of Lurie Children’s Health Partners CIN, the pediatric-focused collaboration formed by the Children’s Community Physicians Association, the Faculty Practice Plan and the hospital. The CIN was created to advance the quality, coordination and cost-effectiveness of care, while contracting with commercial payers as a single entity.
Parents of up to 5,000 children on Medicaid with medically complex conditions breathed a little easier when the hospital launched a Care Coordination Entity named Lurie Children’s Health Partners Care Coordination. Partners include primary care providers, our specialists, partner hospitals, mental health providers, Walgreens and a care coordination team, all focused on providing seamless care for the children who need it most.
Lurie Children’s became a co-owner of MyCare Chicago, an Accountable Care Entity for adults and children covered by Medicaid. The ACE is expected to provide care for up to 40,000 children in the Chicago area. Partners include Swedish Covenant Hospital, Norwegian American Hospital, Mercy Hospital and a number of family health centers and behavioral health providers, all with the goals of improving health outcomes and reducing costs.
